In a heroic display of maritime safety, Disney Treasure responded to a distress call in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, November 10th, successfully rescuing four sailors stranded aboard a sinking catamaran. The incident, which occurred southwest of Bermuda, highlighted the quick thinking and professionalism of the cruise ship’s crew.
How Disney Treasure Saved the Day
The sailors had been aboard the catamaran Serenity, which began taking on water after a gasket failure caused a leak in the boat’s escape hatch. When the Serenity issued a distress call to the U.S. Coast Guard, it was clear that the sailors were in immediate danger. The catamaran, some 250 miles from the nearest land, was rapidly taking on water. With the Coast Guard unable to respond immediately, a broadcast was made to nearby ships requesting assistance.
The nearest vessel, Disney Treasure, was approximately 80 miles away. The captain swiftly altered its course to assist. The crew aboard Disney Treasure launched a lifeboat, navigating through challenging conditions to reach the distressed catamaran. In what could be described as a “fairytale ending,” Disney Treasure’s crew successfully rescued the stranded sailors and returned them to safety.
Captain Marco Nogara, who oversaw the rescue operation, expressed pride in his crew’s swift response. “This is exactly what we train for,” Captain Nogara said. “Our crew’s professionalism and training were instrumental in ensuring that we could respond quickly and effectively to the distress call.”

Having set sail from Germany in late October, Disney Treasure was en route to its homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida, when the dramatic rescue unfolded.
