My Son Sanctuary is located about 25 miles outside of Hoi An. It was the capital of the Champa Kingdom, a civilization that ruled this area of central Vietnam beginning in 192 C.E. We set out to explore this incredible place with an amazing history.
There are 44 beaches in Phuket, Thailand. We didn’t make it to ALL of them, but we did try a lot! Here are our top 3, plus why the others didn’t make the cut.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Thailand, but an initial disappointment was the lack of casual walking opportunities. Eventually we did find a few places to go that were designed with walkers (and runners) in mind.
We heard about the amazingly affordable opportunities to be found in Thailand, so we decided to see what it was all about. We set out with the goal of exploring the island of Phuket, Thailand, for 30 days on a budget of $3,000 for two people.
It’s hard to admit, but it took us an entire month in Thailand before we worked up the courage to get in a longtail boat and go island hopping. Finally, we decided to embrace the adventure and chose the beautiful Koh Hey or Coral Island for our first island destination.
We decided to visit the Phuket Botanical Garden despite many negative reviews others had posted. I am so glad we decided to see for ourselves! I truly enjoyed exploring the gardens and walking through the quiet, peaceful atmosphere.
For a change from all the beach-going we’d been doing in Phuket, we decided to check out water in a different form – while falling! Bang Pae Waterfall is located within the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park.
Our absolute favorite beach in Thailand for snorkeling was Ao Sane on the south end of the island. The rocks and corals just off-shore abound with tropical fish. While smaller than the more well known beaches, it has enough sand to spread out on.
There were lots of new foods to try in Thailand – and not we’re not just talking about Pad Thai! Watch as we try some of the unique snacks found at every convenience store in Thailand.
Coming from the Midwest of the United States, there were many things we were excited to find in Thailand: banana trees, Phuket fried rice, and endless beaches. But perhaps the most exciting thing of all was MONKEYS!
