Of all the places we’ve been, Iguazu Falls is one vista that made me stop in my tracks. The waterfall is 2.5 times the size of Niagara Falls, and is simply stunning!
San Pedro de Atacama is a small desert town located 7,900 feet above sea level in the Atacama Desert. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it is a desert – there are many beautiful lakes in the area! In Chile, they are called lagunas.
We spent five days in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. We explored the Atacama Desert, visited some salt lagunas, observed the stars in the best skies of the world, and soaked in hot springs warmed by a volcano. We had an amazing time!
In December 2023, we took our longest cruise ever: 18 days on the Sapphire Princess, sailing from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile. We made stops in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, and had a lot of sea days. This gave us plenty of time to explore the ship’s unique layout. She ended up being our favorite cruise ship to date!
In December 2023, we took a South American cruise on the Sapphire Princess. When we found out that our port stop in San Martin was close to the enigmatic Nazca Lines, we knew we had to check them out!
In December 2023, we visited our first city south of the equator: Manta, Ecuador. Rather than join one of the expensive shore excursion offered by the cruise line, we opted to explore the city on our own. We walked around this tuna capital of the world, tried ceviche for the first time, and visited a few cultural sites.
Puntarenas is a small town, a peninsula that juts out into the bay on the western side of Costa Rica. Its name literally means “sandy point”, an apt description.
