Here’s What Loyal Carnival Cruisers Will Actually Get
For months, loyal Carnival Cruise Line guests have been asking one simple question: if the old VIFP Milestone rewards are disappearing, what exactly will replace them?
Now, Carnival has finally provided the answer, and while the new rewards aren’t identical to the previous program, frequent cruisers finally have concrete details to evaluate. With the launch of Carnival Rewards scheduled for September 1, 2026, the cruise line has officially outlined how milestone recognition will work going forward, giving longtime guests a much clearer picture of what lies ahead.
The announcement marks one of the final missing pieces of Carnival’s highly discussed loyalty overhaul. Ever since the company revealed it was moving from the VIFP Club to the new spend-based Carnival Rewards program, social media groups and cruise forums have been buzzing with speculation. Now, the guessing game is over.

Milestones Will Be Based on Days Sailed, Not Number of Cruises
Perhaps the biggest change is how Carnival measures loyalty.
Instead of recognizing guests after a certain number of completed cruises, Carnival will now celebrate milestones based on total days sailed. That may sound like a small tweak, but it changes the math considerably.
Under the new system:
- 50 days sailed earns 5,000 Carnival Rewards Points and a special Milestone Sail & Sign card.
- 100 days sailed earns 10,000 points, onboard recognition, a commemorative coin, a Milestone Sail & Sign card, and milestone onboard credit.
- Every additional 100 sailing days continues earning similar recognition.
- Beginning at 500 days sailed, guests will also receive a commemorative keepsake and a special milestone gift in addition to the existing rewards.
These perks are awarded during the sailing where the guest reaches the milestone rather than after completing the cruise.
For travelers who typically book seven-day Caribbean or Alaska itineraries instead of multiple short weekend sailings, the new calculation arguably creates a more balanced system because every day onboard counts equally. Carnival executives have said this approach better reflects the amount of time guests actually spend cruising with the brand.

A Big Difference From the Previous VIFP Milestone Program
Longtime Carnival fans immediately noticed one major difference.
The previous VIFP Club rewarded guests after their 25th, 50th, 75th and 100th cruise with increasingly generous onboard credits based on the cruise fare, culminating in a complimentary cruise after the 100th sailing under certain conditions.
Those headline-grabbing rewards are no longer part of the new milestone structure for future achievements.
Instead, Carnival is replacing those benefits with Carnival Rewards Points, milestone onboard credit, commemorative recognition items and collectible keepsakes. While the company has confirmed that onboard credit returns at the 100-day milestone and beyond, it has not yet publicly disclosed the dollar value attached to those credits.
That missing detail is still one of the biggest unanswered questions for loyal cruisers.

Carnival Says Existing Milestone Awards Are Protected
There is some good news for guests already working toward milestones under the current VIFP Club.
Carnival has confirmed that milestone awards earned before the transition will continue to be honored through August 31, 2030. That means guests who qualified under the old rules won’t lose rewards they have already earned simply because the loyalty program is changing.
The company also extended several protections for existing Platinum and Diamond members after receiving significant customer feedback following the original announcement of Carnival Rewards.
Those revisions were widely viewed as Carnival listening to its most loyal passengers after months of criticism surrounding the initial rollout.
Why Carnival Changed the Program
Carnival says the new loyalty model is designed to recognize both sailing activity and guest spending.
Rather than rewarding only cruise frequency, Carnival Rewards combines cruise purchases, onboard spending, casino play, specialty dining, spa treatments, shore excursions and eligible credit card purchases into one ecosystem that earns both redeemable points and status-qualifying stars.
This mirrors loyalty programs already used by many airlines and hotel brands, where customer value extends beyond simply counting trips.
For Carnival, it also creates greater flexibility. Guests can redeem earned points toward future cruises, onboard purchases and other vacation experiences instead of relying solely on tier-based benefits.

What Loyal Cruisers Should Do Before September
Anyone with upcoming Carnival cruises should review their loyalty account before the September launch.
Guests need to opt into Carnival Rewards to ensure their existing VIFP status transfers properly. Travelers approaching a major VIFP milestone before the transition should also verify where they stand, as completing qualifying sailings before the deadline could preserve benefits under the legacy system.
For future bookings, understanding the new points structure may also influence spending decisions onboard. Specialty restaurants, spa appointments, beverage purchases and shore excursions may now contribute more meaningfully toward future rewards than many guests previously realized.
The Bottom Line
Carnival’s milestone announcement may not satisfy every longtime cruiser, especially those who loved the generous onboard credits available under the old VIFP program. Still, after months of uncertainty, loyal guests finally know what they’ll receive when reaching major sailing milestones.
Whether the revamped system proves more rewarding will ultimately depend on how travelers use Carnival Rewards Points, the eventual value assigned to milestone onboard credits and how the program evolves after launch.
One thing is certain: Carnival’s loyalty program is entering an entirely new era, and frequent cruisers will be watching closely to see whether these changes truly reward the people who keep coming back year after year.
