Construction Begins on the Seventh Oasis Class Cruise Ship
Royal Caribbean is once again betting big on the future of cruising.
The cruise line has officially begun construction on its seventh Oasis Class vessel, marking another milestone for one of the most successful cruise ship classes ever built. The project moved into a new phase following a keel-laying ceremony at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where the massive vessel will take shape over the next two years before its planned debut in 2028.
For cruise enthusiasts, this is huge news.
The Oasis Class transformed the industry when the first ship launched in 2009. At the time, many industry experts wondered whether travelers would embrace vessels carrying more than 5,000 guests. Fast-forward to today, and Oasis-class ships have become some of the most sought-after vacations at sea, generating billions in revenue and helping fuel the cruise industry’s post-pandemic boom.
Royal Caribbean first announced plans for the seventh Oasis Class ship in 2024. Construction officially started with a steel-cutting ceremony in October 2025, and assembly is now underway as workers place the first structural blocks into dry dock. The ship remains unnamed, but Royal Caribbean says it will introduce new dining, entertainment, and vacation experiences when it launches in 2028.
What Makes the Oasis Class Special?
The Oasis Class isn’t just a collection of large cruise ships.
These vessels fundamentally changed how cruise ships are designed. Instead of feeling like traditional ships, Oasis-class vessels are built around distinct “neighborhoods,” creating the atmosphere of a floating resort city.
Some of the signature Oasis Class features include:
- Central Park, featuring thousands of live plants and trees
- The Boardwalk neighborhood inspired by classic seaside piers
- AquaTheater high-diving and acrobatic shows
- Ice-skating rinks at sea
- Zip lines suspended across the ship
- Surf simulators known as FlowRider
- Multiple water slides and splash zones
- Massive Royal Promenade entertainment district
- Dozens of restaurants, bars, and lounges
- Family suites and luxury suite neighborhoods
These features have become defining elements of the Royal Caribbean experience and are expected to return in some form on the seventh Oasis-class vessel. Industry observers also anticipate updated attractions and technology upgrades that reflect lessons learned from the newer Utopia of the Seas and Icon Class ships.

What We Know About the Oasis7 So Far
Royal Caribbean is keeping many details under wraps.
The company has not revealed the ship’s name, homeport, itinerary plans, or exact onboard attractions. However, executives have indicated that the vessel will continue the evolution of the Oasis Class while delivering new thrills, entertainment options, dining venues, and relaxation spaces.
One thing seems certain: guests can expect another floating mega-resort.
Recent Oasis-class ships routinely carry more than 6,700 passengers at maximum occupancy and feature over 20 dining venues, multiple theaters, water parks, and enough activities to keep families entertained for a week without ever repeating an experience.
That’s pretty wild when you think about it.
