New U.S. Embassy Alert Raises Serious Safety Concerns for Nassau Visitors

According to the embassy, concerns have been building for nearly two years.
Officials reported that six U.S. citizens have been hospitalized in jet ski accidents since August 2024, with three requiring emergency medical evacuation back to the United States. The incidents have involved operators described as unlicensed, uninsured, and using unsafe personal watercraft.
Equally alarming are reports of sexual assaults connected to some operators. Embassy officials stated that multiple American women have reported being assaulted after being taken to isolated areas near Nassau during jet ski excursions. Reports were documented in both 2025 and 2026, prompting heightened concern among U.S. authorities.
The embassy’s warning specifically identifies high-traffic tourist areas including Cabbage Beach, Junkanoo Beach, Saunders Beach, Paradise Island, and locations near the Nassau Cruise Port where aggressive solicitation by operators is common.

The timing of the warning is significant because Nassau continues to attract enormous cruise traffic.
The Bahamas welcomed record-breaking tourism numbers in recent years, with Nassau alone receiving millions of cruise visitors annually.
